- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp water
- Garlic Soy sauce (Karakuchi)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp oil (just enough to cook the garlic)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp corn starch
- Main
- 2 cup rice
- 2 knobs butter (2 tbsp)
- 1 can corn (160g)
- 200 g protein
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1/2 yellow onion (minced)
- Optional toppings
- Sliced cabbage
Steps to make Pepper Lunch ("Japanese Fried Rice")
- Marinade your protein with salt and pepper. I used leftover pork belly slices.
You can use chicken, beef slices, prawns, or salmon!
- Honey soy sauce can be keep in fridge for around 1 week.
Mix and simmer in a pan about 5 minutes

- Make corn starch slurry by mixing the water and corn starch
- Garlic soy sauce can be keep in fridge for around 3 days.
Heat up oil in a pan and cook the garlic until aromatic (smells nice innit)

- Mix in the soy sauce and ground black pepper, once it start boiling pour in the slurry.
Simmer until the sauce thickens.
- Cook your vegetables with oil and set aside, I used cabbage for that crunchy texture.


- Cook your protein and set aside. My pork belly slices had a lot of fat so I soak up about half of it.
The other half is for next step.

- Stir in the minced onion and cook until soften, then do the same with the minced garlic.


- From step 9 to 11 is just for presentation purpose and there is a risk of burning your food, you can choose to mix everything like a fried rice.
Get everything prepared and turn up the heat of your stove.
First, mix all the cooked ingredients so far and make a well in the middle.
- Put the rice in the middle and flatten the top a bit.

- Pour the corn on top and about 2 knob of butter.
I used about half of both sauces, just pour them around the edge and let them touch the hot surfaces to sizzle!
- Mix everything together (Now it looks like fried rice)

- Add more sauces or black pepper if you like, serve while its hot.
Tips: leave it untouch over high heat for a bit to make crispy rice ❤ the best part of pepper lunch is it. But becareful not to burn other ingredients.

Edamame - Tips: Originally it is served on a hot skillet, if you have cast iron pan then you can use that.
- Tips: leftover sauce can be used for normal vegetable stir frys. Or second round with different proteins/toppings 😋
